Online Platform
For Chinese Immigrant Youth
I collaborated on this art learning platform for immigrant young adults in the US. It showcases traditional folk art practices and artists to connect young people with their creative cultures and support the development of their identity. We started with China but hoped to expand to other immigrant populations.
The initial design focuses on Chinese first- and second-generation immigrant youth living in the US. We ran a lesson with a user in our target audience and received great feedback and a desire for more lessons. Ideally, the platform is used as a moment of intergenerational connection, but it can also be used in the classroom or individually. The image features the beginning of one course in which we designed a bamboo lantern.
How it Works
Our business model was to create a subscription model that unlocked some monthly lessons and the accompanying toolkit with materials. These would also be available individually on the user's timing. The image shows the hands-on learning section of making a bamboo lantern of a rabbit. Videos and lessons will include high-quality images created by expert artisans. UDL support and accessibility are crucial to designing for a range of learners.
